Objectives<\/h3>\n

The Pathology group is a translational group, focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms of cancer, which includes pathologists from the Pathological Anatomy Service of the Hospital Cl\u00ednico Universitario and professors of Morphological Sciences and Pathological Anatomy of the Santiago School of Medicine, with special interest in the molecular mechanisms of cancer and the development of specific therapies.<\/p>\n

Lines of research<\/h3>\n

The general lines of research are:<\/p>\n

The thyroid pathology group (Dr. Jos\u00e9 Cameselle-Teijeiro), uses the model of human thyroid gland neoplasms to identify molecular targets involved in the etiopathogenesis of human cancer with potential applications for early diagnosis and the development of specific therapies. Specifically and through publicly funded research projects, the development of follicular cell and familial thyroid tumors related to the germline mutation of the APC and PTEN genes is investigated.
\nResearch line to determine in breast cancer, by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, topoisomerase 2 alpha (TOP2A), therapeutic target of anthracyclines, and correlate: the results of fluorescent and chromogenic in situ hybridization techniques, the expression of TOP2A and HER2, TOP2A protein expression and gene status, and TOP2A immunohistochemical expression and cell proliferation (Ki67).[\/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=”Research team” admin_label=”Equipo investigador” _builder_version=”4.21.0″ _module_preset=”default” body_font=”|300|||||||” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n
