Este programa permite \u00e1s c\u00e9lulas defenderse de m\u00faltiples agresi\u00f3ns, asegur\u00e1ndose de que as c\u00e9lulas danadas non poidan continuar divid\u00edndose e promovendo a secreci\u00f3n de m\u00faltiples factores que activan \u00f3 sistema inmune e promoven a remodelaci\u00f3n e a reparaci\u00f3n do tecido afectado. O seu correcto funcionamento permite manter a homeostase tisular, pero o seu incremento e acumulaci\u00f3n, por exemplo, durante o envellecemento, pode derivar en multitude de patolox\u00edas que co\u00f1ecemos como enfermidades asociadas \u00f3 envellecemento e, \u00a0entre elas, \u00f3 cancro.<br \/>Adem\u00e1is, a terapia antitumoral deixa moitas veces c\u00e9lulas tumorais en estado senescente, o que limita a s\u00faa eficacia.
