Carmen Alvarez Lorenzo is Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) since October 2020, and Director of the USC Materials Institute (iMATUS) since June 2022. She is an Academic Numerary of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Galicia, of the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). He has 25 years of research experience in academic institutions in Spain and the USA (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT) and in collaboration with industries. His work sits at the interface of biology, materials science and medicine with pharmaceutical technology, and has led to a wide variety of drug delivery systems at the macro, micro and nano scales, to pharmaceutical products. drug-medical product combination and scaffolds for regenerative medicine. His contributions are collected in nearly 400 articles in indexed journals, 40 book chapters, 2 co-published books, 480 communications to conferences and 20 patents, some of them extended to other European countries, the USA and Japan.
