Mar Quiñones Téllez
Co-lead researcher of group E026 - Endocrine Physiopathology
Dr. Mar Quiñones holds a degree in Biology from the University of Málaga (2004) and a PhD in Science from the Complutense University of Madrid (2010). She completed postdoctoral fellowships in leading international laboratories specializing in obesity. Of particular note are her postdoctoral stays at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in the group led by Dr. Rubén Nogueiras (2012-2015), funded by an ERC grant, and in France at Paris-Diderot University, under the supervision of Dr. Serge Luquet (2015-2018), funded by a postdoctoral grant from the Xunta de Galicia (ED481B2014/039-0).
In 2018, she returned to Spain, funded through a talent recruitment program of the Xunta de Galicia (ED481B2018/004). In 2021, I was awarded a JIN (Young Researchers) grant as an emerging principal investigator by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (PID2020-114350RJ-100) to continue my research in the laboratory of Professor Rubén Nogueiras, CIMUS-USC.
In 2022, I was awarded a Miguel Servet grant from the ISCIII to establish my own laboratory at IDIS (CP21/00108). During my time as a Miguel Servet researcher (2022-2027), I received national funding as a principal investigator from the MCIU/AEI (Project PID2022-142084OA-I00) to explore the role of novel targets related to alterations in the reward system and hedonic behavior in the context of obesity. I also received five years of funding as a principal investigator from the Xunta de Galicia (GAIN-Xunta de Galicia N607D 2023/02). Furthermore, the Galician Society of Nutrition and Metabolism awarded one of my projects aimed at investigating new therapeutic targets in the context of obesity.
Dr. Mar Quiñones is a member of CIBEROBN, working as an associate researcher in the group led by Dr. Luisa María Seoane.
These years have allowed me to acquire a solid scientific background in obesity and its comorbidities, resulting in numerous high-quality publications in leading journals in the field (Nature Communications, Diabetes, Redox Biology, Nature Metabolism, Science Advances, etc.). I have also participated as a collaborator in 19 projects, 2 of which were European projects, 5 in collaboration with industry, and as Principal Investigator in 6 of them (2010-2026).
